Ballyhooly Arts Festival

Ballyhooly Arts Festival is an annual multi-event festival in the North Cork region of Ireland showcasing a diverse range of music, arts and cultural events over five days each May. The festival programme offers a variety of dynamic cultural entertainment with Music & Art at its core. Ballyhooly, a picturesque village perched on the banks of the river Blackwater, is transformed into an Irish cultural hub attracting international appeal. The Ballyhooly Arts Festival displays a rich community spirit that embraces the promotion of multi-cultural diversity in all its music, art and folklore.

History of Ballyhooly Arts Festival

Its roots stemmed from “The Millvale Folkclub” Ballyhooly, a pioneering venue for musicians of all genre and creed, that was founded by John Nyhan and Oliver McCarthy back in the early 1990`s. The Arts Festival was first launched in May 1993, and instantly became a Mecca for musicians, artists, storytellers alike. Those Early festivals formed a very successful template by incorporating local involvement together with a national and international artistic flavour that fostered great pride in the area. What was once a modest celebration of music and art has grown to become an arts festival that punches well above its weight in terms of quality while at the same time holding on to its roots of gentle simplicity.
